Our club’s Christmas festivities started with our annual Christmas dinner at our regular Tuesday club meeting on the 11th December.
It was a great night with everyone in a jovial mood. Our guest speaker for the night was Jerome Mukiza, a fascinating and personable young refugee, who spoke about his native Congo and his initiative for resettling refugees from the Congo by finding them suitable work.

Our next official end of year function was on the 15th, the following Saturday when we held the annual Christmas lunch with the stallholders at our Capital Region Farmers Market. This is the time of year when we thank our stallholders for all their hard work. President Janine read out an extensive list of local and international community projects that the club has been able to fund, thanks to the income generated from our weekly market.

On December 18th, the festivities continued with a joint event with the Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra and the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin at the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell.

All guests were offered the opportunity of joining in the Peace ceremony and ringing the Peace Bell. Our Youth Exchange Student from Japan, Monami Sasaki dressed for the occasion in her kimono and we were also joined by Congolese refugee, Jerome Mukiza.
It was a great finish 2018.
