The Rotary Club of Hall is the only rural Rotary Club in the ACT, and we often have speakers on subjects such as drought, beef production, honey production and the plight of bees.
Last nights guest speaker, Dr Kien Van Nguyen, a Research Fellow at the ANU, presented an interesting talk on the agricultural situation in the Mekong River Delta.
Kien Van Nguyen took his PhD in sociology at the ANU in 2012 with the support of an Australian Leadership Award from the Australian government. His thesis was on ‘Social Capital, Livelihood Diversification, and Households’ Resilience to Floods in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta.
His next project is to develop new links between Australia and Vietnam by bringing Vietnamese farmers to Australia to our organic farmers so they can return and improve organic farming practices in the Mekong.
