The Maths Summer School is a selective two week camp that caters for students who are in Year 11 and is now in it’s 45th year.
In 2011-12 the Rotary Club of Hall sponsored a participant to the Maths summer school run by the Australian National University in Canberra.
The students must be very mathematically able and each year past students help run the program. Topics range from number theory to topology and chaos, with a strong emphasis on problem solving. As well participating in the program there are many social activities and it has been found that many students form lasting friendships
Our sponsored student Sean is a 17 year old student from Melba Copland Secondary School. He came back to thank the Club for the
sponsorship and outlined the activities undertaken.
“It was great to meet with other kids with similar interests. It gave me a feel for uni life and an opportunity to meet people in the profession. I was able to hear from many who had pursued maths as a career,” said Sean.
