After a delicious dinner, we were all treated to a wonderfully entertaining talk by our bubbly Youth Exchange Student, Martina Baumeler.
Martina arrived in Australia on 25th July 2014 and will sadly leave us next Tuesday 14th when Chris and Janine will put her on a plane in Sydney for the trip back to Switzerland.
Martina’s stay with the Rotary Club of Hall has been an unbelievable experience (for her as well as the club!). She regaled us with stories of her stay here and showed many photos of her friends and her travels around the country. She has seen and experienced everything that she had the opportunity of doing, including visiting all of the mainland states and territories where she participated in surfing, horse-riding, skiing and many other activities such as attending football games and the Australian Open.
Martina attended Melba Copeland College and made many friends at school as well as many new friendships with other Youth Exchange students from around the world. She participated in any team sport she had an opportunity to do and excelled in all sports.
Martina was a delightful student to support on her Australian Youth Exchange and is an excellent ambassador for Swiss youth. Past President Tony Tucker said in conclusion, ‘If Martina is any example of our youth, then the future of the world is in good hands’.
She concluded her presentation with a video of her last weekend’s activity… skydiving on the south coast with the club’s Youth & Vocational Director Janine Linklater.
When we toast to ‘absent friends’ each Tuesday night, know that you will forever be in our hearts Martina. Safe travels and best wishes.
