Bulletin No 7/17-18 (21-8-2017)

Hi reader,

I think we can all feel a little proud of the achievements of the Rotoract Club of UC. To me, the photo that says it all is the one taken at the Rotoract Changeover (below), in which we see all five RCUC presidents since the club was chartered. Well done team.

On other news this week, we had the third monthly meeting of 'Rotary 90' committee last Wednesday at the Commonwealth Club. In addition to DG Steve's previous request for articles for the history of D971/9710 considerable time was spent discussing a possible District homelessness project. If members have suggestions they could pass these on to the Rotary 90 committee for consideration.

See you all tomorrow - ED

Weekly Reports

From the desk of President Yvonne:

On Friday evening 11 Aug Paul Tyrrell, Tony Tucker and I attended the Changeover of three combined Rotaract clubs at the University of Canberra. Unfortunately David Rendell could not make it at the last minute. Incoming President Edie Koorey-Crook expressed her appreciation at the representation from our club. It was a fabulous evening that showed how Changeover can be fun and very streamlined as each Club only took 10 minutes to actually changeover.

Celebrating 90 Years of Rotary in the ACT
On Saturday afternoon 12 Aug DG Steve Hill held a meeting at the Belconnen Raiders Club of 16 local Presidents. He introduced Todd from Threesides Marketing who been contracted as the publicist for Rotary's 90 years in Canberra.

Celebrations will cover from 01 Feb to 01 Dec next year. Significant events will include the launch of the Peace Bell at the Nara Gardens behind the Canberra Hyatt on 23 Feb and the ROMAC 30 year celebration ball at the Hellenic Club on 19 May. Todd has asked all clubs to provide him with a one-pager of significant past, present or future projects; interesting articles; if possible the numbers of Rotarians who have passed through our clubs; old interesting photos etc etc.

Naming of the Jim Rochford Grove

On Sunday morning I was honored to represent our club at the naming of the cairn in the Jim Rochford Grove in Hall. Bill Pearson and Dennis Greenwood maintain the grove in immaculate condition and have done so for over 20 years.

The Rochford family traveled from near and far to attend the naming of the cairn and several expressed their deep gratitude the our club for the respect paid to our charter member Jim.
