Bulletin No 6/17-18 (14-8-2017)

Hi reader,

Janine and I picked up Martina and her cousin Rebecca in Sydney on Friday evening and we spent Saturday sightseeing, then on Sunday, the two of them represented Rotary and Australian Rotary Health in the City2Surf.

This morning we dropped them at the airport for a flight to Cairns and the next step of their grand adventure. They will arrive in Canberra to visit the club in a few weeks time.

See you all tomorrow - ED

Weekly Reports

From the desk of President Yvonne:

It was very exciting that so many members and partners braved the cold evening to come to partners night and to hear our speaker Caitlin Figuerido.

Congratulations to Club Service Director Barbara for the successful reintroduction of specific partners nights. The Rotary room was filled with chatter and laughter as we squashed up and enjoyed the fellowship.

• Voting Matters  - Thank you for the responses to the following matters:

• Proposed merger between Districts 9700 and 9710

• Review of structure of our weekly meetings

• Review of Board Structure

• Every member has responded with a very wide array of opinions.

The Rural Fringe has allocated two pages to the donations that Past President Paul presented at our Changeover in June. I have received an increasing number of positive comments from Rural Fringe readers who say that they did not know we existed and how generous was the amount of the donations.

President Steve Jackson sent us a letter to express his thanks for our Community Directorate donation of $8,000 to be put towards clinical cancer trials soon to begin at Orange Health Service. Dr Steve Millard moved to Orange two years ago from St George Hospital in Sydney where he worked at the coalface of cancer trials. Orange North is providing $5,000 to match our donation.

Last Week

Our speaker last week was Caitlin Figueiredo, pictured above with President Yvonne, Barbara (and some random bloke!)

Caitlin is eager to shift the dial toward equality and empowerment of women . In 2016, she won the Young Leader category in Westpac/AFR 'Australia's 100 Most Influential Women'. Last year Caitlin was named a White House Global Change-maker for gender equity by the President and Michelle Obama.
